To help you understand the ISR position, one must first answer the question, "What is Intergroup?"
See Houston we have a solution page.Now that you understand how the Al-Anon Houston-Intergroup functions, you may appreciate that it is by members and for members! Since Houston-Intergroup is yours, go ahead and take ownership, and facilitate the Houston-Intergroup and your groups to be healthier and more productive! Below are some items listed to help you understand better the ISR’s role:
- Regularly attend the quarterly ISR meetings
- Gather information about the Intergroup, District, East Assembly and WSO, and share with your group
- Oversight and feedback of operations
- Serve on committees, such as the biannual Face2Face, workshops and the Al-Anews newsletter
- Recruitment of the Board of Directors and office staff
- Bring needs of your group with solutions
- Serve on outreach programs
- Host speaker meetings for all other Al-Anon Houston groups
- Organize from your group an on-site or off-site service day for Houston-Intergroup
- Organize a social day or evening fundraiser for Intergroup
- Explore other groups
- Communicate ideas and suggestions with your group and Houston-Intergroup
Requirements
- Cannot represent more than one group
- Must be an Al-Anon member from an Al-Anon group
- "Al-Anon/Alateen members who are also A.A. members do not hold office beyond the group level," so A.A. members cannot be ISRs (see G-3 (external link) and "Digest of Al-Anon and Alateen Policies," Dual Membership in Al-Anon/Alateen and A.A.)..
- Suggestion only: It is suggested in the Service Manual, that Alternate GR's serve as the IR, and the GR (Group Representative) serve as the Alternate IR (See "Al-Anon Information Service Representation" in the Service Manual)
